British Airways Boeing 747 Cabin Refresh
BA announced new seat foams and fabrics for Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller in keeping with the latest BA aircraft interiors. There is also stylish LED lighting, new carpets and curtains. British Airways are also fitting in a new Panasonic IFE system and larger HD screens. The headsets will also have a refreshed design and modern look which improves sound and quality.
British Airways New Service from Gatwick to Lima
In more British Airways news, BA is to launch a service from Gatwick to the Peruvian capital Lima. The airline will roster a three class B777 onto the route, which will begin on May 4th 2016 and operate three times weekly during the summer and twice weekly in the winter.
Canada Entry Requirements
The Government of Canada has introduced a new entry requirement known as eTA for certain international travellers when they fly to Canada. From August 1st 2015, eligible travellers are able to apply online for en eTA. The eTA will be mandatory from 15th March 2016.
First Independent Lounge at Heathrow
Heathrow Terminal 5 have opened its first independent lounge which is available to all passengers regardless of their class of travel. It is T5’s first non-British Airways facility. The lounge is open from 5am-11pm.
New India-Visa for ‘Casual’ Business Travellers
India’s E-Tourist Visa Scheme has been extended for travellers from the UK. ‘Casual Business Travellers’ holding a UK passport will now be able to apply and pay for an online visa using the Indian government tourist visa website. This should make process of obtaining a visa easier and cheaper as travellers will not have to make an appointment at the embassy and the cost will reduce from £89.44 to £39.
Trainline is the new name for Thetrainline.com following a rebrand by the rail booking provider. Trainline said the change is to reflect the ‘continued growth of mobile sales’.
New Sheraton Brand
Starwood Hotels and Resorts have introduced a Sherton Grand- a premium brand for its top properties worldwide. The new tier will be added to around 50 Sheraton Hotels by early 2017. The first ten to join the brand include properties in Bangalore, Beijing , Edinburgh and Dubai.
Crowne Plaza Launches ‘Robot Room Service’
Intercontinental Hotels Group has launched a ‘delivery robot’ at the Crown Plaza, San Jose. The robot, called Dash, will deliver snacks, toothbrushes and other amenities to rooms. It is designed to travel at a walking pace and can navigate between floors using a Wi-Fi connection. When arriving at a room, it will phone the guest to announce arrival and deliver the requested items before returning to the front desk where it can dock itself into its own charging station.
