British Airways Changes to Liquids in Hand Baggage
Due to the development of Liquid Explosive Detection Systems, the European Commission has revised the requirements for the screening of liquids, aerosols & gels. The restrictions to liquids, aerosols & gels in hand baggage continues, i.e. containers will still need to include less than 100ml and be contacted within the one litre plastic bag. The new rules sees changes to the treatment of additional liquids not carried in one litre bags. The following liquids starting 31st January must be subjected to the detection system if carried outside of the one litre plastic bag:
- Duty free items
- Baby food/other dietary requirements.

ABTA has warned that visitors to Turkey will soon have to apply for a visa online or they may be refused entry.
The Turkish Consulate has advised that the stamp / sticker visa on arrival will be abolished from April 10, 2014 and will be completely replaced by the e-visa application process. All visitors to Turkey from April 11, 2014 will be required to purchase their entry visa via the Turkish Government website www.evisa.gov.tr prior to travel.
Currently, the cost of the e-visa is $20 US.
American Eagle to be rebranded as Envoy
American Airlines is to rebrand its American Eagle regional carrier as Envoy from spring 2014. The world’s biggest airline, following last month’s merger with US Airways, said the change was being made to give the distinction between the current name and American Eagle. Envoy was chosen as the carrier’s new name following an extensive selection and vetting process. American Airlines eventually plans to operate all of its 10 regional carriers under the Envoy banner.
Delta- Virgin Joint Venture
Delta and Virgin Atlantic are set to launch their new co-ordinated schedules, following the start of the airlines’ joint venture on January 1st. The agreement allows co-ordination of schedules and revenue-sharing on all routes between the UK and the US. This new schedule is set to start in April 2014.
TAP Portugal Adds Two New Destinations in Brazil
TAP Portugal has announced two new destinations in Brazil, Manaus and Belem, commencing in June 2014. TAP now flies to 12 destinations in Brazil, 10 of which are 2014 FiFA World Cup Venues. The new route is to be launched with three weekly frequencies.
