Emma Puts Her Best Foot Forward In our regular look at the amazing people who make Giles Travel what it is, this month we turn the spotlight on Travel Consultant, Emma Sawyer... and her fantastic feet!Back in July, Emma, along with other members of her beloved cricket club, rose to the challenge of raising much needed funds to help save lives by aiding the purchase of cancer detection equipment for a local charity, Scannappeal. That challenge meant walking the 102 miles of the Cotswold Way National Trail, not in the customary 7 days… but in 3½! With the team motto of “Pain is only temporary, failure is not an option” ringing in her ears, Emma and the team set off in the sweltering summer heat of mid-July. Averaging 30 miles per day, the walk started at Chipping Campden and ended in Bath with the team staying overnight in friendly local pubs along the way… though everyone was far too tired to enjoy the hospitality. “The hardest thing was being absolutely shattered at the end of each day, but knowing I had the same again to do the following day. Waking up in the morning and having to bandage my feet up again and put them back in my shoes!!! I literally felt that at the end of the day I couldn’t walk another step and yet from somewhere unknown I found this second wind that got me through the next day!” said Emma of her incredible feat. “Towards the end it was all I could do to just concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other. But despite the pain, it was such a fantastic experience and the support of family, friends and colleagues really kept me going.” Emma’s admirable efforts raised over £10,000 for Scannappeal… as well as quite a few blisters. But the big question now is what’s next for Giles Travel’s own Super Woman? One thing’s for sure… Emma won’t be slipping back into a pair of trainers for a while! News Date: 15-09-2010 |
