Enter The Dragon... ITM and The Business Travel Magazine once again hosted the terrific Dragon Boat Racing Day on Sunday 18th July at the idyllic Oakley Court in Windsor. With the sun shining and the bouncy castles fully inflated, there was no better setting for the inaugural launch (pardon the pun) of the already infamous Giles Dragons!21 teams of 10 from all areas of the business travel industry took to the water to wage war against each other in pursuit of ultimate glory and emblazoned in their natty new Giles Dragons t-shirts and bandanas, our war painted warriors climbed into their boat for the paddle of their lives. Expectations were high, with two gruelling training sessions and countless team strategy meetings already behind them, at last the moment of truth had arrived. Despite winning two of our three races in the opening rounds (we were robbed on the second!) our times were just outside the leaders’ times and we didn’t make it through to the finals. However, that gave the team a chance to enjoy the sunshine, rest their weary limbs and to cheer on the Giles Dragons Kid’s race to a resounding victory! So, not all was lost and judging by the children’s performance there may be a few team selection changes next year. A big thank you to Etihad for sponsoring us and to all the friends and family who joined us at Camp Giles on the banks of the Thames to cheer us on – if there were a supporter’s award we’d have won hands down! Well done and congratulations to the BT Bullets who eventually paddled on to win the competition and be warned... the Giles Dragons will return. To see photos of the day's high jinks, click here.
