Flight Cancellations at Frankfurt Airport

More flights to and from Frankfurt airport have been cancelled as strike action has been extended until Friday evening.

Representatives of the air traffic controllers union GdF said the strike, which began last Thursday over demands for better pay, will last until 11pm on February 24.

The German air traffic controllers' union, the GdF, originally announced another 48-hour strike by apron control staff at Frankfurt Airport from 05:00 hours on Monday 20th February until 05:00 hours on Wednesday 22 February, but this latest action is expected to impact flights even more.

Please expect cancellations and delays durng this time.


Iberia Pilot Strike 

Pilots of Iberia Air are planning industrial action on 17th, 20th and 24th February. This is likely to result in flight delays and cancellations. Please contact your Giles Travel Consultant if you have any concerns about your own travel plans.


Al Italia Strike - 24th February 2012

Al Italia ground staff will be on strike from 10am to 6pm on Friday 24th February. This will affect some services.

Current UK flight cancellations AZ204 Rome to Heathrow and AZ207 Heathrow to Rome.

Nigeria 

VISA UPDATE: due to technical issues, CIBT (our Visa management partner) are unable to process any visa fee payments on behalf of clients at present. CIBT are in contact with the relevant authorities and hope to resolve the situation shortly. In the interim, CIBT's advise is that clients complete this payment process themselves in order to avoid further delays to their application process. Following a general strike in Nigeria over the elimination of fuel subsidies, disruption to transport

throughout the country is still being experienced to a certain extent. Virgin, British Airways, Emirates, KLM and Lufthansa airlines are all flying to the country as normal.  Abuja and PH International airports are operational.

Cairo Travel

There are continued demonstrations in parts of Cairo and travellers are advised to avoid Tahir Square. However, there are currently no travel restrictions in place by the British Foreign Offic and flights are currently operating normally.
